Yamaha RAYZR 125: Overview

This Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer is well-known for producing mass-market two-wheelers (scooters and bikes) to performance bikes. In addition, as you may know, Yamaha is also a pioneer in manufacturing Western musical instruments. Saving more background for later, the Yamaha RAYZR is an entry-level offering in the manufacturer’s portfolio. As mentioned above, there are other Yamaha bikes that cater to different buyers.
However, keeping that aside, Yamaha India recently launched the updated iterations of the RAYZR 125 and the Fascino 125 so that they can meet the new BS6 emission norms.

If you look up the bike on autoX, the first thing you will probably notice will be the ‘Hybrid’ moniker. No, it doesn’t run on an electric motor- it only has an engine start/stop feature, which, of course, cuts down the consumption while the scooter stands idle. This 125cc scooter, however, is good for beginners, as it has a respectable engine output, good looks, and a long list of features. In addition, for your reference, there are no 125cc bikes offered by the manufacturer.
So, below are a few things that you should keep in mind about this two-wheeler.

Specifications

As mentioned before, the 2023 Yamaha RAYZR 125 is an updated version to meet the new emission norms. It has the same engine output as before. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer built the RAYZR 125 on a light-weight frame, which incorporates a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is tuned to churn out 8.04 bhp at 6500 rpm and 10.3 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. In addition, this engine powers the Yamaha Fascino 125 as well. As mentioned in the beginning, this new model has an engine start/stop feature, due to which, it should be safe to say that the running costs might slash by a margin.

Engine

Further, this scooter also boasts Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system, which keeps the engine silent. Further, this SMG system works in combination with Intelligent Power Assist that can produce additional power from the electric motor at start/stop, in slow-moving traffic or moving uphills. That means you can make long journeys on this scooter without worrying about your pockets being pinched. At the same time, the Yamaha RAYZR 125 won’t be jerky, while going uphill, especially at low speeds. So, if you are inclined towards this two-wheeler, you should check out the RAYZR 125 price on the autoX website.

However, as for fuel efficiency, the ARAI-claimed mileage of the Yamaha RAYZR 125 is 49 km/l. But, you may be surprised to know this, the real-world mileage of this scooter is 52 km/l. This actual mileage is based on the reports by the owners. Please note that the real-world mileage can vary with local traffic conditions and individuals’ driving or riding styles.

Suspension

The engine on this scooter is coupled with a CVT automatic gearbox. Moreover, this 125cc scooter stores its fuel in a 5.2-litre fuel tank. The CVT automatic gearbox on this Yamaha scooter might have a rubber-band effect, as CVTs are known for that lag on gear shifts. However, this gearbox unit is cost-effective and makes the vehicle fuel efficient in nature. In addition, you can check out other fuel-efficient offerings, such as Honda scooters/bikes, TVS scooters, and Hero scooters. These are the key players in the Indian two-wheeler market.
Besides that, the updated BS6 iteration is designed to meet the new OBD-2 or RDE norms which will be implemented on April 1, 2023. This rule applies to all two- and four-wheelers, which means that the real-time engine output and health can be monitored.

Keeping the engine performance aside, let’s now talk about the suspension setup. The RAYZR 125 has a Telescopic Fork at the front and a Unit Swing at the rear. It has the same setup as before. That said, it continues to offer the same comfortable ride as before. The suspension setup on this Yamaha scooter is tune by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. Speaking of which, the Yamaha Scooty in India has proven to absorb the bumps from potholes with ease.
Further, this suspension setup works in tandem with disc-drum brakes. Except for the base model (with drum brakes), the rest of the variants have a disc-drum setup. And, a disc brake benefits the vehicle in terms of braking power, as it offers superior braking over drum brakes. The front disc brake can be seen through the 12-inch alloy wheel, while the rear drum brake can be seen through a 10-inch alloy wheel. The Yamaha RAYZR 125, however, has tyre profiles of 90/90 R12 and 110/90 R10 at the front and rear, respectively.

Features

Before listing out the features, it should be worth noting that these offerings belong to the top model of the Yamaha RAYZR 125. This scooter packs a fully digital instrument cluster, which shows relevant readings, such as speed, RPM, fuel gauge, distance covered, etc. It also has a low fuel level indicator and a low engine oil indicator, but no low battery indicator. In addition, it has an automatic headlight feature, mobile app connectivity, an optional USB charging port, a kick and self-start feature, and a digital clock. Considering the RAYZR price, especially the top model, this scooter has a good number of new-age features.

On the safety front, this scooter has a Unified Braking System (UBS) which offers better braking power and stability, especially around the corners. Whenever, the rider applies the rear brake, the scooter automatically activates the front brake to ensure better stability. It also boasts a side-stand cut-off feature that deactivates the engine when the side-stand is engage.
As for exterior lighting, this Yamaha offering has a front halogen light with DRLs alongside a rear halogen light.
So, these are a few offerings of the top model of the Yamaha RAYZR. You can, however, check the curated list of features and specifications of this vehicle or any other vehicle on the autoX website.
