How effective technology inside the classroom?

Educational technology is transforming the way students learn right in front of our eyes. The most recent and clear example of the rapid evolution and combination of technology and education happened with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic when schools revolved from in-person to online learning nearly overnight. However, technology has played a progressively important role in education since long before COVID-19 hit.

There are many benefits to the improved use of technology in education, including specialized learning, increased collaboration, appealing content, project-based learning, and enhanced productivity and efficiency.

Applying different types of technology in the classroom, including a virtual classroom, creates learners who are actively engaged with learning objectives. The application of technology also creates pathways for differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of students as individual learners within a broader classroom climate.

There is a common misconception that the incorporation of technology into the classroom can be a financial burden for school districts. Still, students do not indeed need their tablets or laptops to succeed with technology. The use of technology during whole-class instruction can foster student engagement for aural and visual learners. Applying simple technologies like PowerPoints, games, internet homework assignments, or online grading systems can be the difference maker in students’ growth in the classroom.

Teachers often find success when they give students the chance to use technology in the classroom. There are several benefits and effects when technology is used for educational instruction, and some may argue that not all of the results are positive. Having an immeasurable flow of information and entertainment available at any given time could be seen as a distraction, but if technology is integrated into the classroom with routines in place that are observed or evaluated, the pros of using technology in the classroom outweigh the cons.
